Abstract
Nuclear power plants have been adopting digital networks to enhance the interoperability of data transmission. Since these networking techniques are open standards, it is likely that an attacker can understand the vulnerability to understand attacks. This concern has been described in the Regulatory Guide 1.152 by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the U.S, in which security of network protocols is one of the security focuses. To realize how vulnerable industrial network protocols could be, this project aims to security analyses of industrial network protocols. We will investigate the network architecture and the protocols to be used in the nuclear power plant, and compare the operation with that used in the Internet to realize the vulnerable points in industrial networks. Suggestions to counter possible attacks targeted at the vulnerabilities found will be provided in the final report, which is believed to offer insights to those who develop and deploy the devices regarding industrial digital networks.
