Project Details

Abstract

The goal of this study is to use Web and RFID technologies to construct a healthcare service system for elderly persons with dementia. This system consists of three parts: a Web-based dementia assessment portion, an indoor safety care portion, and an outdoor mobile care portion. The assessment system enables organizational care-providers or the patient's family members to easily determine the patient's degree of dementia. The main function of the RFID-based indoor and outdoor safety care systems is to keep patients from encountering difficulties. This is accomplished by immediately notifying caregiver via warning lights, buzzers, or mobile phone whenever an elderly person approaches a dangerous area or strays too far, etc. Not only designing tags of different sizes to facilitate carrying by the elderly, this study has also developed ID encryption and power-saving features to improve the privacy and continuance. This RFID-base monitoring system was used by a dementia patient care organization to prevent elders from entering hazardous areas or getting lost.
