Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is a multiple cardiovascular risk factors, which can cause cardiovascular disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases, and increased mortality. With Taiwan's industrial change, population aging and the changes of living environment and eating habits, metabolic syndrome prevalence has increased year by year's trend. Labor productivity is important for nation, so the health worker is an important national issue. However, the existing literature for studies of metabolic syndrome are mostly concentrated in a single workplace and a cross-sectional analysis, the lack of large-scale and long discussed. Labor health examination has been practiced for many years in Taiwan, the study captures the traditional industry and the technology industry companies routinely labor health examination data from 2006 to 2013 year (a total of eight years). We used the National Health Council set the diagnostic criteria for metabolic syndrome in 2007, and divided the study subjects were into healthy group (containing no metabolic syndrome indicators of symptoms), high-risk group (containing 1 to 2 indicators), and metabolic syndrome (containing > 3 indicators). According to the preliminary results show that the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome for manufacturing workers have gradually increased. The research hopes to future explore the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and related predictors for different industries labor groups. Research result in addition to providing the people and enterprise as a reference to improve the chances of chronic diseases in the future, also help health authorities made proper preventive strategies. In addition, future research methods also by analogy to other industries, in order to improve the overall health of the population of labor purposes.
