Abstract
The research project aims to use road-running as an example and design a physical activity
social platform-Gatherun so that users (athlete and spectator) with various motivations and
needs could all be part of the exercise event since nowadays physical activity applications
mostly put emphasis on users who already have exercising habits. Gatherun aims to let
athletes share their exercise information on physical activity social platform in real-time and
receive spectator’s cheer; while spectators interact with athletes on the social platform via
virtual game interface. The various stages of the project are:
to conduct a comprehensive literature review of relevant research article, existing
technology, application, users’ characteristics and requirement when assessing a physical
activity applications; to apply self-determination theory to investigate athletes and
spectators’ exercise psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness.
to use “Predicting Tie Strength with Social Media” and “Measuring Tie Strength Theory”
as the physical activity social platform filter criteria on users’ social connection; to assist
users to connect with other friends that share common interests and participate rate in
physical activity; to let information effectively disseminate in specific physical activity
social groups in order to elevate users’ participation in physical activity.
to respectively validate the system and interface usability of Gatherun base on “ISO
Usability Definition (9241-11)” and mobile interface heuristic evaluation; to construct
structural equation modeling to investigate the relationship between Gatherun’s system and
interface usability; to extend technology acceptance model with self-determination theory
as research framework and investigate users’ acceptability, motivation, and willing to use
of Gatherun.
