Project Details

Motor ability is found fundamental to other aspects of development such as cognitive and social development. The young children with motor delays would have participation restriction without environmental support or modification. Recently, Participation has been proposed to be an important index for early intervention under the framework of “International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health-Children and youths” (ICF-CY). Besides, the comprehensive evaluation for both participation and environment in children with special needs has been more emphasized by multiple professionals in the processes of disability certification in Taiwan. Berg et al have modified the “Activity Card Sort” for adults to the Preschool Activity Card Sort (PACS) according the concepts of ICF-CY and Q-sort technique. The PACS was developed for evaluate the opportunity for participation rather than difficulty, frequency, or independence of the activity. The PACS not only help parents with identifying the goals of early intervention, possibility of participating specific activity, and related environmental barriers. Though the Preschool Activity Card Sort was available in English, the items need to be translated to Chinese and the content also needs to be revised with the permission of the developers due to cultural differences. In addition, the psychometric properties of the Chinese version also need to be validated. The purposes in this project are as followings: (1) To design the Chinese version of Preschool Activity Card Sort based on the original version of Preschool Activity Card Sort written in English; (2) To test the psychometric properties of Chinese version of Preschool Activity Card Sort: reliability, content validity, and Convergent validity; (3) To describe the children’s conditions with the combination of ICF-CY participation and environment categories; (4) To compare the patterns of Participation patterns between the children in different settings during daytime (kindergarten or nursery school vs. home).
