Abstract
Obnoxious facilities refer to partially undesirable facilities that affect the lifestyles but not the lives of the surrounding population. This study aims to assess the quality of a bi-objective model for the obnoxious p-facilities location problem that can capture the true nature of such class of problems. Compared with location problems of desirable facilities, obnoxious facility location problems were less investigated, especially those involving interaction betwen facilities and population centers, therefor to initiate an in-depth study of this topic is important. Two primary goals of selecting obnoxious facilities are to disperse facilities as far as possible and at the same time to keep them as far away from the surrounding population centers. Hence this study aims to develop bi-objective models based on this two conflicting objectives; this model aims to maximize the total sum of distance (or the minimum distance) between the facilities and the clients (Max-Sum and Max-Min respectively), as well as to maximize the total sum of distance (or the minimum distance) between the selected facilities at the same time. This study wants to investigate the effects of various kinds of p-obnoxious objectives and then summarize their differences in terms of optimal solutions. Then we will develop efficient meta-heuristics methods and provide tools for the decision-maker/users to find optimal solutions that can be accounted for the different aspire levels of conflicting objectives for the obnoxious p-facilities location problem that makes our methodology more practical and have real-world applications. Furthermore, we hope to develop metaheuristic algorithms that can solve large problem instances fast and efficiently.
