Abstract

Thunbergia alata Boj. Ex Sims ( Acanthaceae ) is a twining perennial vine that can be grown as an annual. They are a great plant for hanging baskets or for trellises. They are native to tropical Africa and also called black-eyed susan. Nine iridoid glucosides, five flavonoids, two benzyl alcohol glucoside, two alphatic alcohol glucoside and one pyridine derivative had been purified from the Thunbergia genus plants. There were just five iridoid glucosides reported from T. alata and no pharmcological reports. The methanolic crude extract of T. alata was tested its anti-asthm a activity. The result showed that the crude extract could enhance IL-12p40 secretion about 2375 % than control from dendritic cells at 75 ^g/mL. We are interested to investigate the constituents and bioactivities of T. alata due to the less of phytochemical studies. This study aims to look for bioactive principles from T. alata by virtue of bioassay-directed isolation and structural elucidation.
