Abstract

An on-chip Lithium battery charging system with detailed schematics and preliminary simulation results is proposed to be integrated with an environmentally powered sensor readout system. Instead of the conventional analog-to-digital conversion and digital control, the proposed system utilizes a fully analog topology in order to minimize the complexity in terms of the energy efficiency. Transistors working in sub-threshold reduces unnecessary power consumption and is adopted in this battery charging system. This on-chip charging system includes amplifier, over-discharged detector, current driver, and bandgap reference. With it, the environmentally powered sensor node will be more immune to the environmental instability and show more practiability in the future.
