Abstract

Background and purposesProfessionalism starts from the learning of knowledge and skill of nursing care. Post-graduate BS program in nursing is a new program in Taiwan within these two years. After 3-year training, these students will be qualified to attend the national board exam to be nurses. This 4-year cohort study plans to compare the professionalism between these new student nurses and the traditional trained student nurses. Meanwhile, the associated factors will be explored.Research designSubject Recruitment: researcher meets with students in their class meeting,then, explain the purposes of research, subject criteria, process of data collection and answer the questions proposed by these potential subjects.Sample size: All subjects fit the inclusion criteria were selected. Total 100 BS students in each year and 45 subjects in each year in the post BS RN program will be recruited. In addition, students admitted at year 2018 and 2019 will be recruited for two generations of cohorts. Measurement: Subjects need to fill up questionnaires (professional commitment; nursing professional value scale; hardiness scale; emotional; and big five characters) during the first two weeks of each semester. And their academic achievement will be recorded from the academic affair. 8 times of questionnaires need to be fulfilled. For the last year of study, these questionnaires will be mailed to the subjects with stamped-return envelope. No serious complication will occur during research period. However, if subject report unpleasant feeling, we will provide mental support and stop writing questionnaires. We will stop data collection for this time or terminate this study by the decision of the subject. Statistical analysis: Data will be managed by SPSS. The basic information of each variable will be resented by mean, SD, and %. Statistical methods such as: t-test, ANOVA, ANOCOVA, and GEE will be performed to verify the expected relationships among these variables.
