Abstract

The purpose of this study is to construct a mode of cooperative learning based on design thinking for students in the different departments and evaluate its effectiveness—Knowledge and creative application of plants in aboriginal area. By following a method of design thinking, the groups of different departments of students cooperatively design creative products of plants. The research objects were the third or fourth years’ students taking the course of Knowledge and creative application of plants in Health School of Chang Gung University. The learning satisfaction was evaluated on four parts including teacher’s performance, program design, learning assessment, and academic environment by using questionnaire. The learning outcome was also evaluated by using the questionnaire including a series of question associated with knowledge, skill achievements, and learning attitude. The 16 objects filled out the questionnaire before and after the implementation of teaching model and all questionnaires were returned and collected. The questionnaire scales were analyzed using nonparametric test by SPSS software and students’ reflection reports were processed using descriptive statistics analysis. The results showed that total average of both learning satisfaction and learning outcome in questionnaire scales were increased (P<0.001) after the teaching model was applied. Besides, the average value of each domain in post-tested questionnaire scales was obviously increased, as compared with that of pre-test (P<0.001). In reflection reports, there were 100% of students agreed with the new teaching model. The results of our study can provide information on the effectiveness of the application of design thinking in the curriculum to facilitate innovative reforms in teaching.
