The supply and demand of dental manpower should not be limited to the assessment of number of dentists. The financing, policy, dental education and management should be included in the assessment of dental manpower. This protocol will apply the health resource modules designed by World Health Organization and investigate the problem encountered in Taiwan dental manpower. The following five goals will be achieved. The feedback regulation and continuous improvement of dental manpower system will be emphasized.
1.To estimate the manpower demand from oral diseases.
2.To investigate the number of dentists in last decade. The investigation will include total number and distribution of dentists, density of dentists, dental graduates each year, number of taking dental board examination, number of passing dental board examination, dental graduate of each school, gender, age, dental specialists.
3.To compare the dental manpower with U.S.A., Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia, and South East Asia.
4.To apply the health resources modules designed by WHO, and to understand the various factors influencing the dental manpower.
5.To predict the appropriate dental manpower in next 5~10 years, and to recommend the strategy of using WHO modules in policy making.
