Design and Implementation of Humane Stunner for Pig Applications

The objectives of the project entitled “Design and Implementation of Humane stunner for Pig Applications” are to increase the competitiveness of company, to comply with our national animal welfare policies, to research on humane stunning system of livestock, to develop new products for power processing applications, to establish and help promote the humane stunner demonstration system of economic animal, and to incubate and educate the mechatronic application oriented engineers and researchers. During the project performance interval, we will focus on designing and implementing the humane stunner of pig which adopts utility line sources. Furthermore, we will establish a technical platform for further research and conduct system commercialization. In this research project, the designed system is highly innovative and feasible. It is relatively competitive because the stunner system adopts power processing technology and is operated at high frequency to reduce volume and increase conversion efficiency. Furthermore, it facilitates to implement module and to maintain them. Our research group has already accumulated the design experience of livestock and poultry stunner and killer for many years. Moreover, we also went to the slaughterhouse for verifying the hardware of our design system. In the experimental duration, we exchange the suggestions with the slaughtering operators of the slaughterhouse each other. From these experiences, we have accumulated a lot of the oretical and practical knowledge about the livestock and poultry stunning and killing. Based on above experiences, we strongly believe that we are able to fulfill the goals of this project. We hope not only to encourage the cross-field in Taiwan, but also to incubate the competitiveness of company.
