Abstract
The purpose of this project is to design an automatic supervisory control system
and use least energy consumption control methods to maintain the indoor comfort of a
building.
The automatic supervisory control system proposed in this project has two
designed aspects. The first aspect is designed for avoiding unnecessary wasted energy
due to careless behavior. The second aspect is designed to activate the control
mechanism once the indoor comfort conditions are out of the normal ranges. In this
project, we will use Petri net to model the supervisory control system. In addition
to using software to present the operations of the Petri net, we will also justify the
appropriateness of the Petri net theoretically.
The second part of the proposed project is designed to use the least energy
consumption to maintain the indoor comfort conditions within the normal ranges.
Basically, the indoor comfort conditions consist of three aspects: (1) visual comfort
(2) air quality and (3) thermal comfort. In this project, we will propose a decoupling
control strategy to deal with three indoor comfort conditions individually.
In addition, we will also build an experimental platform to demonstrate the
applicability of our research results. Therefore, our project is planned for three years,
and we summarize the major work of each year in the following:
1. First year: we will propose a Petri net based automatic supervisory control
system and use software to present its operations as well as the theoretical
justification for its appropriateness.
2. Second year: we will propose the least energy consumption based control laws
for visual comfort control, CO 2 concentration control and thermal comfort
control under the decoupling control strategy.
3. Third year: we will build an experimental platform to demonstrate the proposed
supervisory control system and the three indoor comfort control methods then
analyze their performance.
