Development and Evaluation of Postpartum Sexual Health Education Program of Vietnamese Wome in Transitional Marriages in Taiwan

Abstract

This is a three-year research project. The overall goal of this research is to develop an effective and culture-specific postpartum sexual health educational programme of the Vietnamese women in transitional marriages in Taiwan. The main purpose of the first year project is to explore the postpartum sexual health educational need of the Vietnamese reproductive women in transitional marriages in Taiwan by triangulation method. The purposes of the second year is to design and develop the postpartum sexual health educational programme of the Vietnamese women in transitional marriages in Taiwan, which according to the results of needs assessment and health educational strategies of the first year. In the third year, the research project will conduct a prospective control trials to evaluate the effects of the postpartum sexual health educational programme of the Vietnamese women in transitional marriages in Taiwan. According to the “pretest-post-test control group design”, a total of 120 samples will be recruited at a large-scale medical center and a local hospital in northern Taiwan, and then will be assigned to one of the two groups, the experiment and control groups. Dependent variables will be measured with a questionnaire titled “The Evaluation of postpartum sexual education Questionnaire”before and after intervention such as postpartum sexual knowledge, sexual attitude, sexual self-efficacy, contraceptive self-efficacy, and effective contraceptive behavior, birth spacing , and sexual satisfaction. Analysis included overall repeated-measures analysis of variance. The study will establish an effective, culture-specific and theory-based postpartum sexual health educational program of the Vietnamese women in transitional marriages in Taiwan. Besides, the effectiveness of the intervention should be helpful to create the role and function of a nurse in family planning education.
