Abstract

In this project, we have proposed a receding horizon control based stochastic simulation optimization method for the computationally expensive discrete event system stochastic simulation optimization problem and apply the proposed method to a practical problem, the smart appliances’ scheduling problem in a smart home energy management system. The following tasks have been completed in this project. 1. We have proposed a four stage receding horizon control based discrete event system stochastic simulation optimization algorithm. This algorithm includes a computationally efficient method to solve the discrete event system stochastic simulation optimization problem and a framework of receding horizon control mechanism to accompany the aforementioned computationally efficient method. 2. We applied the aforementioned four-stage algorithm to smart appliances’ scheduling problem, which is formulated as a discrete event system stochastic simulation optimization problem.
