Economic Research of Radiation Therapy: A Case Study of Pancreatic Cancer

Project: National Science and Technology CouncilNational Science and Technology Council Academic Grants

    Project Details

    Abstract

Cancer patients may suffer from side effects of radiation therapy so some advanced radiation equipment provide lower risk of these side effects but costlier treatments such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy and proton therapy. Studying economic cost for this advanced radiation therapy was lacking. This study aims to evaluate the health costs including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, side effects etc. to calculate the proportion of radiation therapy for the patients with pancreatic cancer. And, then extend the results to evaluate the economic cost or benefit of proton therapy.
