Abstract

This project is part of the main project of ‘Establish quality assurance programs of medical exposures from mammography and x-ray computed tomography in Taiwan’. We propose to investigate the radiation dose and equipment quality assurance for computed tomography scanners which contribute the highest dose level in diagnostic x-ray facilities. We propose to complete the following items in three years. First is to investigate equipment quality assurance and radiation dose for computed tomography in Taiwan; second, to evaluate the radiation dose, and radiation risk for age-dependent pediatric CT in Taiwan; third, to assess the radiation dose reduction in Taiwan for automatic tube-current modulation. Then, criteria for testing, standard operation procedures and qualified personnel will be provided. According to survey data, reference dose levels, radiation risk, collective dose and dose reduction by automatic tube-current modulation for pediatric and adult CT will be determined and given to the Atomic Energy Council for reference.
