Project Details

Abstract

This research evaluates a gender-sensitive sexual health education model for women with gynecological cancer in Taiwan. This three-year research project will include developing gendersensitive indicators for sexual health education assessment for women with gynecological cancer. The instruments will be tested using cervical cancer as an example to verify the intervention effect with a randomized controlled trial and longitudinal study design. The first year project develops the gender-sensitive sexual health indicators and measurement instruments for women with gynecological cancer. The instrument will be tested using a sample of participants with gynecological cancer (n = 110). The second and third year research develops the gender-sensitive sexual health indicators and measures for women with gynecological cancer. The Gender-Sensitive Sexual Health Education model for women with Cervical Cancer (GS-SHE-CC) in Taiwan will then be evaluated. The model (GS-SHE-CC) will be developed according to needs assessment results and health educational strategies from the previous study (Lee et al., 2015). The model will include individual sexual health education, a pamphlet, educator guide booklet and a gender-sensitive training program. According to the prospective and randomized controlled trial design, a total of 160 couples with cervical cancer will be recruited from the gynecological wards of a large-scale medical center in northern Taiwan. The participants will be assigned to one of two groups (the experiment and control groups) by randomization. The control group (n=80 couples) will receive routine sexual health teaching. The experimental group (n=80 couples) will receive the GS-SHE-CC. Data will be collected at baseline, 1 week, 6 weeks, 4 months and 7 months after intervention.
