本計畫屬基礎微生物學研究,對社會及經濟無直接影響。但計畫所得有利於發展偵測、預防和控制由血鏈球菌所造成的感染,故對降低醫療成本極具淺力。在學術上,此計畫所得將增強我們對口腔正常菌叢如何由共生菌轉變為致病菌的知識,對發展控制口腔生態平衡的方法,甚為重要。
