Abstract

All living organisms contain various complexity of genome to express their different appearances. Even viruses, having a small amount of blue-print, either RNA or DNA, also show different morphology. The outbreak of COVID-19 infected more than 520,000 people and caused 16,000 deaths world-wide, which caused a great panic in everyday life. To provide the first-hand knowledge of newly emerged viruses and newly invented gene editing tool of CRISPR/Cas9 to public, in this proposal, we will produce three episodes of 48-minute movie as a title of “Genome revelation: decoding and editing”. In episode 1 entitled “decoding”, it will introduce how scientists decode the origin and genome of COVID-19 and understand the genome regulation related to various diseases. In addition to tracing the historical discovery of blue-print of organisms, it will introduce new science knowledge of epigenome. In episode 2, entitled “editing”, it will cover the discovery of new gene editing system of CRISPR/Cas9, and the application of this new technique in human diseases and agricultures. In episode 3, entitled “common life system”, it will raise an ethic question “can scientists manipulate genome of embryo?” We are not alone on the earth, how to achieve a harmony world along all other living things and unknown viruses.
