本計畫屬基礎微生物學研究,對社會及經濟無直接影響。但計畫所得將讓我們對共生菌如何轉變為病原菌的基本機制有全面的了解,對如何早期在高危人群中發現潛在共生病原菌,降低醫療成本等有所貢獻。在學術上,計畫所得將加強我們對口腔鏈球菌種的基因組、轉錄組及生理活性的知識,有助於發展診斷標記及治療策略。
