Abstract

This three-year project will set up a Mobile Healthcare System for Elderly Community, which aims at taking care of every subject』s physical and mental condition at anywhere in anytime. During the course of study, we will keep track of and analyze individual』s health-related data, such as body mass index, leisure activities and dietary habit, to find potential risk factors and prevent participants from being threatened by various diseases. When an individual』s health condition appears to be in jeopardy, through wireless positioning system, his/her ID and geographical location will be automatically transported to an administrative core, where an emergency team can be dispatched immediately. If needed, the administrative core may further relay the subject』s personal data to a referral hospital for treatment considerations upon arrival. Moreover, we may provide a 「live」 audio/video/data tele-casting from an ambulance to the hospital during the physical transportation. The outpatients can also be followed up by this system, through computer-activated telephone, computer-activated television, etc. As to the mental health part, high risk factors for depression towards an individual may be identified and computerized. Accordingly, a customized remote monitoring system can be configured and installed. Base on these critical indicators, this system can provide advices to elder people who suffer from anxiety or depression through commercial electronics with an intelligent interface. We choose Chang Gung Health and Culture Village for setting up, evaluating and validating the proposed Mobile Healthcare System. This village, located in Kwei-Shan Township of Tao-Yuan County, was established by Formosa Plastics Group. Formosa Plastics poured 10 billion NT dollars into this 34-hectare (340,000 m2) site to build the first full-scale community dedicated for senior citizens that will accommodate 4,000 households. There are many brand-new facilities specifically designed for its residents, including various dining places, fitness centers, conference rooms, religious houses, outdoor trails, etc. There is a 24-hour service center and a nursing home in the village to provide medical attention whenever there is a need, with Tao-Yuan and Lin-Kou branches of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital standing by within 10-minute driving distance for comprehensive medical services. This village is expected to be operational in the beginning of 2005.
