Abstract

Mortality and morbidity for the Very Olds in Taiwan: a Life Table Analysis Kuanjeng Chen, Chang Gung Yniversity This project proposes collecting death records and population counts to explore the small but crucial effects of shifting terminal age group of the life table on the calculation of life expectancies. It is crucial in the sense that the shifts may cumulate to produce a suppression effect on the long term trends of the life expectancies. In the process of unveiling the suppression effect, we will also deal with a number of speculative statements expressed in the literature. It appears the death statistics for the very olds tend to be unstable and inaccurate for reasons, this project will collect the returns to an enumeration of the very olds in Taiwan at the end of 2003 to clarify the inaccuracies and effects on the life table calculation. Additionally, the project proposes examining the average years lived in an interval of the life table to study the process of approaching the limit by each of the averages and its effect on the life expectancies. Based on an analysis of the definition of disease prevalence, this project will further bring the effects of shifting mortality on morbidity to the construction of disease life table as a component of the ordinary life table.
