Abstract
Steganography is an art of secret communication by embedding message into various medium such as audio, image, and video and it can be modeled as prisoner’s problem raised by Simmons in 1984. On the contrary, steganalysis is the art of detecting the presence of secret messages. Usually, steganalysis can be classified as target-based steganalysis and universal steganalysis according to methods. Target-based steganalysis can reveal secret message with the knowledge of the steganography algorithm. Universal steganalysis can detect the secret message independent of the steganography algorithm. Although universal steganalysis are difficult to design but it is more attractive in various practical applications.
The goal of this project is to develop an “adaptive universal steganalysis scheme” that it has the ability to detect completely unknown or new steganography algorithms. This project will utilize “statistical analysis”, “image processing” and “machine learning” techniques to detect and analyze the digital images based on its characteristic pattern.
A general structure of universal steganalysis consists of three main stages: (1) signal preprocessing, (2) feature extraction, and (3) classification. This project also has three major the focus. First, the newly developed “Contourlet transform” will be adopted to feature extraction. Second, select or design appropriate classifier based on extracted features and adjust proper parameters between classifier and extracted features. Last but not least, to improve the “multi-class universal steganalysis scheme” which proposed by Fridrich et al. and Rodriguez et al. and to develop an adaptive universal blind steganalysis scheme to enhance the fine efficiency and accuracy.
While the development of steganography is growing rapidly, it is difficult to design a universal blind detection scheme. This project will develop an “adaptive universal steganalysis technique” by the way of theory inferences and experimental proof and it tends to reach the practical goal of preventing the steganography techniques abused by the terrorists.
