Personalized Healthcare Design and Evaluation in Dietary Intake App Development

Recently, with the increased popularity in mobile smart devices, innovative service upon personalization are continuously developed and improved. With the fact of increasing number in global obesity people and of increasing level of importance upon safety in food environment, the service model has been transformed from convenience, to personalized menu, and further to healthy diet. Some food companies have started to provide this type of service. Further, this type of service is expected to grow, in the areas of restaurants, soft drinks, fast food, and lohas people. However, to provide this type of service, a useful, usable, and easy to use App tool is important. Particularly, as the dietary intake is constantly daily activities, the functions in selecting and recording personalized menu (what) and mobile food portion estimation (how much) is considered to be crucial. This research project will develop an App tool with the functions of personalized menu and food portion estimation on the move. In the first year, this research will develop an App prototype and conduct initial test. In the second, a real environment will be used to conduct the experiments so as to investigate the effectiveness and efficiency of the tool. The result of this research will be developed for future innovative dietary service. This research belongs to healthcare design. The project manager will make best use of the resources provided by Chang Gung University and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. An interdisciplinary team will be organized to enhance previous research results so as to contribute to academy and industry. Further research of this project will be expanded to include different target groups including senior citizens, and children. It is expected to develop such tool to be convenient, efficient interface and process to research the goal of personalized mobile health management.
