Abstract

The Department of Life Sciences in the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) contains 18 disciplines, including 3 in biology and agriculture, 5 in basic medical science, and 10 in clinical medical science, and one emerging areas. One expert will be appointed as the coordinator for each discipline. The coordinator is responsible for the following affairs: 1) assists in promoting and reviewing application documents of research projects, 2) reviews application documents for attending international conferences, inviting oversea scholars for lectures and short-term instructions, and recruiting research personnel, and etc., 3) reviews application documents of international cooperation/bilateral science and technology cooperation (such as planning of cooperation area, suggesting the priority of projects, researchers exchange and visit, and etc.), grants for international symposiums, grants for the participation of international academic organization conferences, and grants for international academic-industry cooperation and professional training, 4) attends meetings for discipline coordinators and supports business promoting campaign of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 5) assists in collecting research results, composing annual research reports, and providing academic data related to the discipline, 6) hosts meetings, conferences, seminars, announcement campaigns, and etc., 7) provides other related disciplines with assistance in planning, organizing and executing events or performances, and 8) explores prospective study or promote international academic exchanges. The future promotion of " Morphological Medicine and Physiology " will cover the following objectives: (1) Integrate basic and clinical medicine, and continuously promote the progress of translational research and breed potential biotech company; (2) Strengthen cross-disciplinary integration and exchanges to enhance the research and development energy of the overall biomedical science; (3) to assist the research resources and career development of young research scholars, and to strengthen the mentorship; (4) to improve the quality and fairness of the grant review process, and to optimize the research atmosphere; (5) Promote international competitiveness of outstanding young scholars, cultivating rising talents; (6) Promote the quality and sustainability of research team to accentuate the energy of academic research; (7) Provide suggestions to development direction for Morphological Medicine and Physiology; (8) Promote the related business of the Discipline of Morphological Medicine and Physiology. The future prospect of " Morphological Medicine and Physiology " is to become the leading discipline in the field of basic medicine to promote the development of internationally competitive translation medicine by awarding high-quality research projects, talents and teams.
