Project Details

Abstract

This project will be studied within two years. The following items will be studied in the first year. (1)The poly(vinyl alcohol)/chitosan/graphene nanocomposite membranes will be prepared and crosslinked by glutaraldehyde. (2) Pt nanoparticles supported on graphene with polyvinyl alcohol as an ionomer will be developed. Various analysis techniques will be used to characterize the nanocomposite polymer membrane structure, the physical and thermal properties, the ionic conductivity as well as methanol permeability of the as-prepared membranes. The following items will be studied in the second year. (1)Preparation of Pt, Pt-Carbon, Pt-Graphene and Pt-sulfonated Graphene Catalysts, (2) preparation and modification of catalyst inks and electrodes, and (3) the alkaline membrane electrodeassemblies (MEAs) will be fabricated by the polymer electrolyte membranes, which were prepared in the first year. The potential-current density (I–V) and the power density-current density curves of the DMFCs comprised of various different type of PVA/chitosan/graphene nanocomposite membranes at various temperatures will be studied.
