社會、經濟發展面向：本計畫將與醫療單位合作，提出提升病人教育與護理指導的改進方案。若能成功執行，將有助於醫病共享決策的品質，進而因醫療品質增進而減少台灣健保的負擔，提高整體社會的福祉。所合作之醫療單位為台灣醫界之翹楚，研究過程與結果在醫療界也將有強大的知識擴散作用。學術發展面向：此計畫為跨領域計畫，將為資訊界擴展對醫療應用領域的興趣，並且為醫療領域樹立在醫療溝通方面，資訊科技應用的學術價值。
