Project Details
Abstract
In this subproject proposal, we intend to construct an automatic control network
for home appliances based on wireless sensor networks and power line
communications. We will integrate this subproject (Subproject 2) to other subprojects,
such as the supervisory control system and optimal energy management (Subproject 1)
and the renewable energy system (Subproject 3), for constructing the Building Energy
Management System. The goal of our project is to save power energy and reduce
carbon emissions. In this subproject we will design an efficient, low-cost and high
reliability smart home control network based on wireless sensor networks and power
line communications. Additionally, we will resolve the communication interface
problems between home appliances/wireless sensors and the power lines, and ensure
that the commands sent by the management station can reach the controlled
appliances and can control them properly. This project will last three years. In the first
year, we will investigate the power line communication and smart grid technologies.
And then a proper architecture for the Building Smart Grid will be proposed. In
addition, the optimal sensors placement issue will also be addressed. In the second
year, the communication interfaces between home appliances, wireless sensors,
renewable energy systems and power lines will be studied. Finally, the overall system
integration will be done in the third year. We expect to train several experts in the area
of wireless sensor networks, power line communication technologies and smart home
networks. Besides, we think several technical papers on the wireless sensor networks,
power line communications or smart home networks will be generated under the
support of this project.
