Abstract
Based on my past research, I will proceed to explore on the representations of light rays in physics
curriculum from two correlated aspects—scientific history and students’ misconceptions.
The study will focus on the development history of the conceptions of light rays and refraction
from two perspectives: (1) understanding the development of geometrical optics conceptions
through the historical textual analysis (2) analyzing optics textbooks and interviewing high school
students and teachers.
By integrating the two perspectives, the study aims to figure out some key problems and effective
cognitive conflict strategies to strengthen the development of professional teaching, clarify
student’s misunderstanding, and improve the context of physics textbooks.
