Abstract

In addition to the routine work tasks listed in Chinese abstracts, there are two aspects we would like to promote in the research fields of microbiology, immunology and laboratory sciences. 1. The application of “omics” in microbiology, immunology and laboratory sciences: In the past few years, with the surge of “omics”, there have been many breakthroughs in research fields of microbiology, immunology and laboratory sciences. Early development of genomics and proteomics drove several targets to be potentially used in clinical, though their detection methods should be improved. On the other hand, the application of metabolomics in such research fields is still in its infancy. However, its potential is probably unexpected and is worth of devotion. Therefore, we would like to continue bridge the basic and clinical research in the fields of microbiology, immunoilogy and laboratory sciences based on those “omics”. 2. Multidisciplinary researches in infectious diseases: Both microbes (pathogens) and host factors (e.g., immune responses, metabolism and etc.) are equally important for infectious diseases. Currently we have outstanding microbiologists and immunologists in Taiwan; however, the cross talks in those fields are kind of limited. To gain a better global view for understanding viral host interactions, we would like to bridge ”omics”between pathogens and hosts, which may contribute to a more systematically view for infectious diseases and then have a better contribution for disease control, prevention and treatment.
