Abstract
For patient with organ transplantation, the main goal is to improve them to participate in
the social activity and represents the societal perspective functions. However, there is little
study to exam the recovery of social function in organ transplantation patients. Moreover,
the scope of the study was too narrow on the employment status, and work capacity. Social
participation is a broader point of view for us to exam the patients with organ transplant.
How do they participate in the social activity, how to interact with people in the society and
how to represent the role and function as society’s perspective. The purpose of this study is
to explore the social participation of patient after a liver transplantation (LT) or kidney
transplantation (KT).
We use the retrospective and prospective data collection method. The study site is a
tertiary medical center in northern Taiwan. Qualitative study will held in the first study year
and the quantitative study is in the second and third study years. The patient inclusion
criterion is: age 18 years old and above, receiving LT or KT and with stable physical
function, and the year after the surgery within five years. The purposive sampling method is
use to include sample.We will recruit 40 patients (LT 20, KT 20) for qualitative study to
explore the experience of social participation and 220 patients (LT 100, KT 120) for
quantitative-retrospective study to analysis the effect of related factors. Also, we will recruit
120 patients (LT 60, KT 60) for quantitative-retrospective study to analysis the change of
social participation.We hope the results of this study will to extend the goal and spectrum of
transplant care and to serve as reference framework for policy making.
