Abstract

First Year: Styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer (SBS) will be used as a substrate for this study. To enhance the functional activity, SBS will be modified to get the epoxidized SBS. The ratio of formic acid and H2O2, reaction time and temperature on the epoxidation will be evaluated. The performance of modified SBS will also be studied. The polyelectrolyte multilayer will be prepared by using chitosan and lysine as polycation. Heparin and polyglutarmic acid will be used as polyanion for this study. The optimum condition for the polyelectrolyte multilayer will also be studied. Second Year: Combining the techniques developed from the first year, the layer-by-layer multiple polyelectrolyte modified epoxidized styrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer will be prepared in this study. The performance of the membrane as biomaterials will be evaluated by Quartz Crystal Microbalance and Electric cell-substrate impedance sensing. Third Year: Combining the photolithographic techniques and cell co-culture technique, the cell-substrate interaction will be evaluated by ECIS system. The effect of co-culture and pattern of polyelectrolyte multilayer on the cell interaction will also be evaluated.
