Abstract
The imaging method of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is very different from that of traditional CT. It cannot follow the existing Article 2 of Medical Exposure Quality Assurance Standard. This standard is for the traditional CT units in diagnostic departments, the CT part of PET/CT or SPECT/CT scanners in nuclear medicine departments, and the CT simulators in radiation oncology department. Therefore, it is necessary to design appropriate quality assurance items to fulfill the CBCT radiation operation property. The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has proposed patient dose management for CT and multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT) in ICRP Report No. 87 and Report No. 102, because of CT’s high-dose levels. Later, ICRP also proposed ICRP Report No. 129 for Radiation Protection of the CBCT in 2015, due to that the CBCT dose assessment method is quite different from the conventional CT. The purpose of this project is to propose the CBCT medical exposure quality assurance specification, including the quality assurance program, the frequency of implementation, and the recommended allowable error. A dose assessment method for CBCT is also proposed to verify the radiation dose display on the CBCT equipment.
