Abstract
With the financial support of NSC in recent three years, I have published
over 10 articles and obtained two Taiwan's patents in trivalent Cr
electroplating technology and Cu electroplating on Mg alloys. That is, my
research results meet the project purpose. Based on our previous results in
developing a trivalent Cr plating bath, the mechanical and chemical properties
of two-, three-and four-component Cr-based alloy deposits will be further
studied in next three years in this project. The plating substrates are Mg
alloys (AZ61 and AZ91D). With the aid of microstructure study, the hardening
mechanism, corrosion and wear resistance, and fatigue and tensile properties
of Cr-based alloy deposited specimens will be investigated. Meanwhile,
according to our developed trivalent Cr-based plating baths, we try to improve
the throwing power of trivalent Cr electroplating. The hardening mechanisms
and dynamic hardening behavior of Cr-based alloy deposits will be investigated.
Furthermore, we try to develop an electroplating technology of Cr-based fourcomponents
alloy deposits.
In the first year of this project, throwing power and electroplating
current distribution of trivalent Cr plating will be studied. The tensile and
fatigue behavior of Cr-based alloy deposited Mg alloys will be tested and
discussed. In the second year, the annealing hardened Cr-based alloy deposits
will be investigated. The corrosion-, wear-, and corrosion wear-resistance
of Cr-based alloy deposited Mg alloys will be measured. In the last year, the
tensile and fatigue behavior of composite coatings of Cr-based alloys and Al2O3
nanopowders on Mg alloys will be studied; meanwhile, four-component Cr-based
alloy electroplating bath will be developed. During the performance of this
project, I expect, at least two academic articles will be published in SCI
journal every year; besides, the technology of Cr-based alloy electroplating
could be very useful in related industry.
