Abstract

The surgeon cuts the sick bone and then fills with suitable supplemented bones in the spinal fusion surgery. Patients will get well after the placed supplemented bones replacing original sick bones and fusing with peripheral bones. In order to find the suitable supplemented bones, physicians must try different kinds of materials. They draw the bone contour on the X-ray image that patients received surgery first and evaluate each material by calculating bone area. However, data achieved by this method is not objective and research report also gives a great discount in its convincingness. To help doctor to diagnose and research, we will develop an X-ray spinal image computer-aided diagnostic system by combining the image processing methods and doctors’ experience rule in this plan. With this system, the computer can draw the bone outline accurately, and calculate the size of area of bone automatically. This system can reduce the human factor as best as it can., and data achieved are more objective. Hence, the surgery achievement and research paper via this system will have more convincingness.
