Abstract
This two-year proposal aims at the synthesis and microstrip realization of canonical filters of the sixth- and eighth-order filters with either elliptic-function or frequency-selective linear phase responses. Based on the given S-parameters of the canonical filters, we derive the analytical solution formulations to solve the element values and coupling coefficients of the circuits. We have complete the derivation of the elliptic-function filters of sixth- and eighth-orders. The derivation for the frequency selective linear phase filters will be completed in the second year of this proposal. Coupling matrix synthesis method will also be implemented here for validation of the solutions obtained by the analytical formulation, as well as for checking existence of extra feasible solutions. It is noted that both the derivation and coupling matrix synthesis for sixth- and eighth-order canonical filters are not an easy work. The more challengeous part, however, is the realization. Before the circuit is fabricated, according to our recent experiences, it is diffifult to obatin a satisfactory respoonse of a sixth- (not even to say eighth-) order through the full-wave electromagnetic simulation, since there many geometric paramsters to be adjusted and many coupling coefficients to be taken care. This would be in need of some effective algorithm for circuit diagnosis and more experiences.
