Abstract
The three novel processes will be utilized to synthesize and integrate ultrahigh surface area graphene nanoribbons for eight applications. From experimental viewpoint, we plan to use the
microwave-assisted synthesis to unzip various multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Furthermore, KOH activation method as a post treatment will be used to increase the surface area of graphene nanoribbons. All kinds of graphene nanoribbons will be screened by a novel facile characterization method and other different analysis methods so as to be integrated in the electrochemical biosensors (especially for dopamine). For international collaborations, we
will work with Canadian and American scientists to use scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) to check the ultrahigh surface area graphene nanoribbons as the absorbents. For domestic collaborations, the professors from NTU and NTHU will help us study the ultrahigh surface area graphene nanoribbons for supercapacitor, DSSC and biomedical applications. Besides our experiences in carbon nanotube and graphene in early publications, (Chem. Mater. 2005, 17, 3749. Citation > 130, N/M = 5.6%; J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2006, 128, 8368. N/M = 7.2%; J. Mater. Chem. 2011, 21, 14622. N/M = 7.4%; Biosens. Bioelectron. 2011, 26, 3450. (29 citations per year) N/M = 3.8%; Carbon 2012, 50, 4192. N/M = 9.2%; Prog. Mater. Sci. 58, 565 (2013). N/M = 3/239 = 1.3%; Nanoscale 5, 6812 (2013). N/M = 7.5%) we already have some results which can prove this proposal is doable as well as valuable. (ACS Nano 2011, 5 (10), 7788. N/M = 3.8%) It is believed that we must be able to contribute to the development of nanocarbon materials with significant research achievement, patents and publications.
