Abstract

The aim of this design research is to fuse everyday technologies into craft designs through the unique craft working process as well as the understanding of craft material. Bone china is one of the most remarkable materials that represent fine craft spirit. Hence, the design series 1, “Sky and Ground” forming the semi-transparent organic nature lighting designs, had represent the fine craft aesthetic in fusing with the everyday technology – the LED lighting. The design series 2, “Smart Decoration” presents the new design concept - functional decoration. Through the systematic approach to modulate craft units with potential everyday functional needs. Fine craft objects can turn into attractive and smart products. The design series 3, “The Paper Didn’t Burn” experimenting the molding process of recycling papers and the extra attachment compounds, had achieved low cost tooling, easy molding, high strength and fireproof. The easy molding method can facilitate the eco friendly to develop various domestic products. The result of three design projects, the fusion of craft materials and everyday technologies, had demonstrated not only the new method for craft industries but also the alternative insight for product design disciplines.
