Abstract
The study is focusing on evaluate effects of situated teaching strategy and cooperative learning model on improving student nurses’ communication skill in clinical practice with terminal cancer patients. In order to improve the confidence of student nurses’ communication skill in clinical practice with terminal cancer patients and the effects of curriculum. Data were collected at the beginning and the end of the semester in clinical practice. The results showed that 14 students joined the study, the quantitative result (1) the effect of curriculum: the students’ communication skills and confidence will significant improve (p<0.05) (total score is 5). (2) the curriculum preferences: the scores of the items preference will 3.8-4.6, and in the order of the experience of grief and loss, the process of truth-telling, the dilemma of moral in medical practice and facing the needs of dying patients. The combined satisfactory score is 4.2-4.5 in the need of learning, the understanding of the medical ethic and the training of the communication. Moreover, student’s satisfactory in the set scene teaching and the situated teaching and cooperative learning model has the score of 4.4. In their review of the reflecting they mentioned “think in the different way”, “ have the bravery to face the problem”, “care and compassion”, “break the myth” and “cooperate in learning”.
