Abstract
Individuals with Down Syndrome (DS) results from dosage imbalance of genes located on human chromosome 21, which affect not only motor performance such as walking, running, jumping and balance, but also cognitive function in memory, executive functions and attention. The motor and cognitive function development of DS are delayed while being compared with typically developing children. The past studies showed the cycling training might improve memory, executive functions and attention of cognitive functions by activating the prefrontal cortex. The dual-task training refers to the ability of an individual to perform two tasks simultaneously, such as cognitive and motor tasks or two motor tasks. The dual-task training may improve the motor skills by focusing on memory, ex-ecutive functions and attention of cognitive engagement to provide benefits and efficiency for the cognitive performance. Because few studies in this issue are found in the present, therefore, the purpose of this study will investigate the effects of 8-week cycling-cognitive dual-task training on motor and cognitive performance in individuals with DS.
