Abstract
The advancement of information techniques change the ways of learning significantly. It is not the major focus issue for the academic training of nurses. But it might help the nurses learn efficiently. Evidence-Based Health Care (EBHC) is part of the major area needs to be learned in health care system worldwide. Research group plans to combine the web learning and project conducting into the traditional classroom teaching in order to increase the effects of teaching for both the student nurses and clinical nurses. Therefore, the aim of this two-year program, using quasi-experimental and longitudinal study design, is to identify the instant and mid-term effects of EBHC teaching program on the student nurses (RN) and the clinical nurses (RN).
Samples will be recruited from a school of nursing (N=100) and a medical center (N=100), both located in northern part of Taiwan. The student nurses who select the course of EBHC will be the experimental group whereas whose who will not is the control group. For RN, they will be distributed into the control or experimental group by random assignment. The experimental group received the combination teaching of the web learning, project conducting, and classroom teaching. Also, regular visit of e-mail or phone call related to their general condition will be conducted. For the control group, only e-mail or phone call will be conducted. Meanwhile, the international cooperator will teach a similar course in USA. Her results can be used for international comparison with the student nurses. The outcome indicators included: knowledge and attitude toward science; computer literacy and information literacy; critical thinking, self-efficacy towards EBP; knowledge, attitude and implementation towards EBP. These data will be collected at the beginning, end of course instruction, then every 3 to 6 month. It takes 6 points of data collection.
Data will be keyed in and analyzed by SPSS-PC13. Demographic data and brief results of each indicator will be analyzed by mean, SD and %. The comparisons between the control/experimental groups and international comparison are analyzed by t-test and Chi-Square test. Similar tests are used for the relationship between the experimental groups. GEE test will analyze the changes of each group during research period. P<.05 is chosen as level of statistical significance.
