The Life Experiences and Health Care Needs of Type 1 Diabetes during the Transition Phase on Patients Aged between 16 and 25

Abstract

Type1 diabetes occurs mostly in children and adolescents. The control of disease has been getting worse during the transition phase of adolescents to young adults. It is one of the most pressure during the late adolescent to young adulthood because they face the variety of career development. It will impact the result of disease control by the stress and personal capability to face the challenge. We are lacking the concerning research in domestic study. Therefore, we will use two stage design to explore the transitional life experiences of patients with type 1 diabetes in age 16-25 years old and to understand transitional healthcare needs. At first stage, a descriptive phenomenological design will be employed to describe the living experiences of adolescents and young adults with type 1 diabetes in Taiwan; The second stage, a Delphi method will be used to establish the consensus of transitional health care needs in patient with type 1 diabetes. The findings will provide as important references for clinical practice, and a scientific knowledge base for relevance intervention develop.
