Abstract
The Relationship among Organizational Characteristic, Human Resource Management Practices, Medical Core Competence and Medical Quality
Abstract
In the modern knowledge-based and service-oriented economy, the success of many firms has shifted from acquisition of tangible (physical) resource to accumulation of intangible (human) resource(Ployhart, Weekley & Ramsey, 2009). Intangible human resource is formed by individual’s knowledge, skills and ability (KSAs). Strategic Human Resource Management, (SHRM)argued that human resource management practices can increase employee’s knowledge, skills and ability. Those resources are valuable, rare, inimitable, and nonsubstitutable that can enhance organization competitive advantage(Wright, Dunford & Snell, 2001).
The mission of medical staff is to protect people’s health. To achieve this goal, they shall have 6 medical core competence that were drawn by ACGME, USA. They are patient care, medical knowledge, practice based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, system based practice. The above 6 medical core competence were adapted by local medical centers to train and evaluate medical staff especial for physicians and nurses.
The study is to examine the relationship between human resource management practices and 6 medical core competence. Can Medical quality be improved through medical core competence? What’s the role of organizational characteristics, firm size, ownership, and organizational life cycle on the above 3 issues?
