Project Details

Abstract

Endophytes are including bacterial and fungal microorganisms which reside in the tissues of plants; however, they almost are fungus. In previous studies, many bioactive natural products were isolated from endophytes, and exhibited diversities of bioactivities. On the other hand, the systemic bio-screening databases cannot be building up as results of the limited bioassay models. Therefore, in an attempt to research and development the endophytes as bioactive natural products sources and finding one or more endophytes which exhibited significant bioactivities, the endophytic extracts were prepared and subjected to difference bio-screening tests. In previous studies, three bioactive endophytes, Bacillus licheniformis, Brochothrix themosphacta, and Penicillium paxilli, were isolated from Orthosiphon spiralis and Prunella vulgaris, and showed highly selective cytotoxicities. Therefore, the aim of this project is investigation of the bioactive constituents from these endophytic extracts. Furthermore, we also try to isolate other endophytes from mangrove plants, and further to evaluation the bioactivities of the endophytic extracts from mangrove plants
