Project Details

Abstract

The skill of telling the truth to patients with cancer is important but easy to be ignored. Doctors with good communication skill not only can build a better relationship with patients but also have positive influence to their treatments in the future. However, both medical and nursing educations are lack of training those kinds of skills which medical personnel should have. The goal of this study is to develop an E-learning system that medical personnel is able to learn the truth telling and communication skills autonomously. This proposal will provide three phases including: (1) To develop the multi-platform training system: we try to develop a content management system to help medical staff improving their communication skills. This system support different user interface devices (ie. website, mobile phones and CD) in order let user access teaching material more easily. (2) To design the voice interactive system: we will create a standard intonation database and implement voice recognition algorithms to evaluate intonation accuracy. This system can help doctors or nurses enhance their communication capabilities from text level to voice expression. (3) To establish the personal training platform: The system will evaluate the weaknesses of each individual learner and provide the personal recommendations to strengthen their deficiencies.
