Abstract

Bluetooth technical was developed for short-rang data and voice communications. Since Bluetooth devices have the advantages of low-power, low-complexity and low-cost, they are increasing selling rate and have been embedded in handsets, PDA’s and notebook computers as a standard specification. Moreover these devices are very suitable to construct piconet and scatternet networks for some special applications. For example, the participants transmit and receive briefing document using a Bluetooth network in meeting room located at an office-building with a lot of different companies; and in battle fields, the captain hosts a battle meeting in a mess environment, and downloads the battle plan and assign mission for each squad. The aboveapplications show the importance of ad-hoc wireless networks. These applications naturally make the security in those networks to be a significant research issue. In the three-year project, we will develop a suitable ID-based cryptosystem for the applications of ad-hoc Bluetooth networks, based on bilinear pairing and elliptic curve technical. In the first year, we will put most efforts on the detail planning, the development of algorithms, and the deduction of related theories. During the second year, we will concentrate on the protocols design and software implementation. Finally, in the third year, we will integrate the softwares developed in the previous two years to construct a secure ad-hoc Bluetooth network.
