Abstract
From our epigenetic study on gout, we have identified one member of WD40-repeat (WDR)
protein family, known as WDR52, might be related with development of gout. Besides
WDR52, other WDR molecules are also related with gout from our preliminary study.
In the three years of project, we will study systemically the role of WDR family on gout in
the first year to validate key WDR molecules associated with gout. Then, we will investigate
their molecular mechanism contributing to the development of hyperuricemia, gout, or tophi.
Finally, we will develop new strategies to modulate the key WDR molecules in patients with
gout. In total, 50 adult men with normouricemia (normal control group), 50 adult men with
asymptomatic hyperuricemia, 50 adult men with non-tophaceous gout and 50 adult men with
chronic topaceous gout will be enrolled. We expect that this project will be a new milestone
for gout, one of the most ancient and most common diseases in the world.
