Abstract

A screening method to identify agents that inhibit hepatitis C virus replication by in vitro liver biopsy, particularly compounds applicable in the treatment of hepatitis C, comprises: (1) obtaining two biopsies of the same size from a patient suffering from hepatitis C; (2) using a culture solution containing a special compound to cultivate the first biopsy, and using a culture solution free of the special compound to cultivate the second biopsy; and (3) measuring the propagation index of the hepatitis C virus in the two biopsies, in which the special compound is deemed as effective in the treatment of hepatitis C if the measurement on the hepatitis virus is lower in the culture solution containing the special compound than in the culture solution free of the special compound. The invented method is applicable prior to, during, or after a treatment on hepatitis C.
