Abstract

The present invention provides a chemically modified graphene which comprises a graphene main body and a plurality of -CO-R-COOH groups grafted to the graphene main body, wherein R represents a C1 - C5 alkylene, a C1 - C5 alkenylene, a substituted C1 - C5 alkylene or a substituted C1 - C5 alkenylene. The present invention also provides a manufacturing method of chemically modified graphene comprising a ring-opening reaction proceeded by a cyclic anhydride mediated by an Lewis acid, followed by a grafting reaction with graphite so that the graphite is peeled off to form a graphene, and at least one -CO-R-COOH group is grafted to the graphene. The chemically modified graphene possesses good dispersion in the majority of polar solvents.
